Alpha Centauri A (α Cen A, α Centauri A, Alpha Cen A), also known as Rigil Kentaurus, is a G-type main-sequence star in the constellation Centaurus. It is the largest star in the Alpha Centauri star system and at the same time the largest and closest star to the Solar System.

Formation

Alpha Centauri A was formed like several other stars, by stellar dust clouds. This could have formed Alpha Centauri Ab, but that comes down to if the exoplanet did actually form.

Planets

Alpha Centauri Ab is a possible exoplanet orbiting Alpha Centauri A. Some more observations have to be done to determine if the planet does actually exist, but if it did it would likely be a gas giant.

Neighboring bodies

Alpha Centauri B

Alpha Centauri B, also known as Toliman, is the second largest star in the Alpha Centauri system and the other star in the binary system that is Alpha Centauri A and B. It is a K-type main sequence star.

Proxima Centauri

Proxima Centauri is the smallest star in the Alpha Centauri system and a M-type main-sequence star.
